Meredith Russell
I am a practicing visual artist and designer, with over 25 years of teaching experience in the VisualArts and in Set and Costume design for Theatre. I have worked on numerous Dance, Theatre and Outdoor Events, on Festivals, Fringe, Community and School projects, and have worked as an artist-in-residence in many Secondary and Primary Schools around Adelaide. I have exhibited regularly as a Visual Artist and Set and Costume Designer. I love collaborating with other artists, students and community to create meaningful works of art and events, which everyone can enjoy.
In 2014 I received the Carclew Minister’s Education and Arts Award for professional development which funded further study at The Slade School of Fine Art, London. In 2004 I was producer, artistic director/designer of a large community outdoor dance performance event, ‘Circling the Square’ at Henley Square, involving 100 people, and combining contemporary dancers, Indian dancers, local community, schools, and yogis. This was directly related to my interest in the formation of sacred space, following my Masters of Visual Art study in the role of transformation in Indian Dance and Art as it relates to Contemporary movement. The idea was to gather Professionals, Community and Schools together to experience dance movement, music, and art in a transformative circular outdoor setting by the sea.
My current work explores the movement or underlying energies in nature that unify the natural world (prana) as they resonate through our affinity with colour, form, texture and mood. I have a continued interest in Indian Art and Culture, including Vedic philosophy and also work as an Ayurvedic Practitioner and Yoga teacher. I love exploring the joy of movement, music and visuals combined. I love my garden, travel and walking in nature.
